Preface

This is a description of the syntax and semantics of the Timetable File for the Traffic Screensaver program.

This document is not constructed like a textbook - its goal is to encompass all of the aspects of the subject, but in a purely methodological form, rather than a didactic one.  Therefore, you should view this more as a reference manual than an instruction manual.  If you are new to the Traffic Screensaver, you may be better served by consulting the document “How to use the Traffic Screensaver” first.  It describes step-by-step how to use various commands, shows some simple examples and is well illustrated.  That document is the suggested introduction, albeit incomplete.  It does not describe the full set of commands or cover all of the possible functions of the program.

This document describes the elements that make up the Timetable file from the top down.  It begins with the commands (if you examine an existing Timetable file, you can see how complex they can become) and expands on the constituent syntactical elements.  You will better understand a command (especially the Movement commands) if you follow this rubric and read all the information about the ingredients and the syntax elements used.

My thanks to James McDonald who edited the text and not only corrected the grammar, but added many examples to assist the reader on certain things that weren't apparent to the author.
