In the Graphic Testpad and the Macro Editor, two areas contain operational elements:

• Above the drawing there are push buttons that appear based on the contents of the macros that are attached to the vehicle viewed.
• Underneath the command line there are either three (Graphic Testpad) or four (Macro Editor) buttons.

An example of the first type of control elements looks something like this:

These buttons have the following meanings:

• Z-   - shrinks the upper depiction of the vehicle one level smaller.
• Z+   - enlarges the upper depiction of the vehicle one level.
• P1U  - Moves the Pantograph with the number 1 (usually the one on the left).   If the button is pressed then the pantograph normally should be raised. Depending on the type of pantograph animation, the pantograph will either jump to the raised position when this button is pushed, or rise gradually.  This button only appears if the vehicle has a pantograph animation attached to it.
• P2U  - As above, but for the pantograph with the number 2 (usually the one on the right). This button only appears if the vehicle has a pantograph animation attached to it.
• P<   - sets the status of a change in the end of the vehicle based on its neighbour to true  (see [NL: ] Command]]), or when not depressed to false. The button text may change based on the exact syntax of the macro. Additionally the following other buttons may appear: * **''M    -''** switches between moving and phase display mode for vehicles comprised of multiple pictures that are shown in sequence in order to depict motion on the screen. If the button is depressed, the vehicle is shown in motion.  When not depressed, the phases are shown. * **''>    -''** switches between different views of the vehicle based on direction of travel.  Some vehicles have different appearance based on which direction they are travelling on the screen.  This button (and its counterpart  <) show the current direction selected, > to the right and < to the left. * **''DOOR -''** moves the doors of a vehicle, if the vehicle has any **''[[a2|[A:DOOR, ... ] commands. * P3U  - This button only appears if the vehicle at hand has a third pantograph.  It controls this third pantograph (usually the inner or inner left pantograph). * P4U  - This button only appears if the vehicle at hand has a fourth pantograph.  It controls this fourth pantograph (usually the inner right pantograph).   * X<   - Buttons of these types are based on macro statements appearing in the command line.  The actual text that appears is based on the name of the type specified in the macro. The trailing  < or > shows the direction in which this command is applicable. Underneath of the command line, there are the following buttons: Copy - copies the current vehicle picture into the clipboard. Save - saves the current vehicle picture by way of a standard Windows dialogue box into a directory in *.gif, *.bmp or *.dib format. Cancel - ends the editing session without saving the changes to the Stock List and closes the Graphic Testpad window. OK -'' ends the editing session and saves the changes to the Stock List and closes the Macro Editor window.  This button only appears in the Macro Editor.  If the OK** button is not visible, then the changes to the macro cannot be saved.   In the Graphic Testpad it is not possible to save any of your changes, but rather this function is intended to be used as a tool for testing possible macros without changing them permanently in the Stock List.
