The speed of vehicle motions can be controlled in traffic in different places:

• global in the Traffic-config
• global at timetable
• individually in the vehicle movement
• individually on the vehicle itself

Traffic knows three speed indications:

• the maximum speed of a vehicle composition
• The approach speed of a vehicle composition, ie the speed with which the compilation sets in motion
• the speed of a compilation when coupling to another

Traffic offers the possibility to adjust the overall speed at once. However, this does not set all movements at the same speed, but acts as a multiplier for the individual speeds, so that the speed ratios of the movements to each other are maintained.

On the one hand, for each modes the global speed can be entered separately in the traffic configuration window, which is valid for all timetables. The default value after installing Traffic is 45.

On the other hand, a global speed can be specified in the timetable, which overwrites the one in the configuration window. This is usually indicated by $SPEED in the header of a timetable. An equal sign is used as with all global timetable information not.

In the timetable, the approach speed ($IV, $INITIAL_SPEED, $STARTSPEED) and the dome speed ($CV , $COPSPEED, $COUPLE_SPEED). Here, however, an individual indication in the vehicle movement is usually more useful.

In der Fahrzeugbewegung wird die Geschwindigkeitsangabe durch V= gekennzeichnet.

Bei bestimmten motiontypes, die mehrere Zugteile enthalten, können auch mehrere Geschwindigkeiten angegeben werden. Diese werden dann in chronologischer Reihenfolge als V1 etc. gekennzeichnet.

In Fahrzeugbewegungen kann auch ggf. die Anfahrgeschwindigkeit mit IV=, INITIALSPEED= (man beachte den fehlenden Unterstrich) oder STARTSPEED= und die Kuppelgeschwindigkeit mit CV=, COPSPEED= oder COUPLE_SPEED angegeben werden.

Die Geschwindigkeit kann auch am Fahrzeug selbst als modification angegeben werden, und zwar sowohl in einem Fahrplanmakro als auch in der Fahrzeugreihung der Bewegung als auch in der vehiclelist. In allen Fällen wird sie mittels [#V:] an den Namen eines Makros oder eines Bildes angehängt.

Bei mehreren entsprechenden Angaben in einer Zusammenstellung überschreibt jede Angabe die vorherige, so daß immer die letzte genannte gilt.

Anfahr- und Kuppelgeschwindigkeit können am Fahrzeug nicht angegeben werden.

Sind beide Angaben in einer Fahrzeugbewegung vorhanden, also sowohl ein oder mehrere Fahrzeuge mit Geschwindigkeitsmodifikation als auch eine Geschwindigkeitsangabe in der Bewegung selbst, gilt die Angabe in der Bewegung, d. h. die Modifikationen werden außer Kraft gesetzt, unabhängig davon, welcher Wert höher oder niedriger ist.
